The more I see the horrendous evil humans are capable of, the more I stand in awe before the miraculous transformation that Christ creates in the human heart who acknowledges its desperate wickedness. Rather than succumbing to overwhelming evil, may we be captivated by divine awe!

خُلقنا باشتياق للمجد. ندرك يقينا أن المجد الذي من الناس يدمرنا والمجد الذي من الله يقودنا إلى الرهبة والعبادة الحق. لكننا ننخدع! نحتاج للمخلص الذي وهو كلي الاستحقاق لم يقبل مجد من بشر! “كيف تقدرون أن تؤمنوا وأنتم تقبلون مجدا بعضكم من بعض والمجد الذي من الإله الواحد لستم تطلبونه؟”
When the path ahead isn’t clear, trust Him who is beyond all paths, space, and time. We may need to trust Him not only for next steps, but for the current step. That’s trust. A priceless lesson never learned when the path ahead is clear.

قبل كتابة “أستطيع كل شيء في المسيح الذي يقويني” يكتب بولس أنه “تدرب” أن يكون مكتفيًا.. فيبدو أن الاستطاعة هنا لا تشير إلى القدرة على فعل أمور خارقة كما تعودنا فهمها، ولكن ربما أكثر الأمور الخارقة بالنسبة لطبيعتنا البشرية الساقطة، والتي تستلزم قوة المسيح والتدريب الشاق، هي الاكتفاء

How drastically our perceptions would change if we realized that the non-physical reality is much more “real” than the physical reality “illusioned” by the many filters that cloud our vision.

“..وتتجددوا بروح ذهنكم..” (أفسس ٤: ٢٣) كلمة “تتجددوا” في الأصل اليوناني ἀνανεόω ananeoō تشمل “تكريس الذهن”. لن نستطع أن نُكرِّس حياتنا للرب قبل أن نُكرِّس أذهاننا للرب ونخضع لتشكيله المُبدع فيكون لنا “فكر المسيح” ونبدأ في رؤية الواقع من منظوره غير المنظور!

“I wish to be free. I wish to be human.”
[Spoiler warning]
“Mom, the movie was amazing! I can’t believe that Aladdin chose to set the genie free for his third wish instead of choosing something for himself.” Those were the first words out of my daughter’s mouth as we walked out of the movie theater, having just watched Aladdin 2019. Well her comment sparked a series of discussions all the way home and inspired me to write this blog 🙂
Freedom. Early during the movie, the Genie expresses his utmost wish to Aladdin: “I wish to be free. I wish to be human.”
Freedom. Humanity. What is freedom? What does it mean to be human? Those must be among the most common questions asked nowadays. Are all humans by definition free as the Genie seems to be inferring?

Our Longing for Authenticity
We long for the authentic. Texting a friend may be fun, calling and hearing their voice brings them even closer, but nothing compares to actually spending time with them. We’ve all heard (and many have painfully experienced) that while advancements in technology and communication promise to bring the world closer, they result in a painful gap; creating a façade of closeness while leaving people at unprecedented levels of loneliness.
Yet when we deal with people face to face, we are faced with an even deeper problem. While we are physically seeing the real them, they are usually hiding behind layers after layers after layers, and reaching the real them seems to be the arduous feat of an expert digger.
But before we start pointing fingers, let’s pause to think of ourselves. Are we too hiding behind layers? Do we really reflect on the outside who we are on the inside? Or are we looking for an authenticity in those around us yet fail in being authentic ourselves?

The human ego…
The human ego is so brittle yet often hides behind stone walls. All the walls offer is pseudo-protection, eventually crushing us under their weight. Only he who lets go of the stones and hides in the Rock, Christ Himself, can face the world head-on & grow resilient in the process.
