Happily Ever After

Our 9-year old daughter usually starts her birthday countdown a month in advance and we hear her escalating excitement for 30 days until she reaches the climax on her special day.

But no matter how much she has enjoyed her special day, she’s a little down at the end of it. She doesn’t want the day that she’s been waiting for for a year, and anxiously counting down towards for a month, to just end! She wishes it could go on forever.

Don’t we too wish that certain days of the year could go on forever? What’s the ending line of any classic fairytale?

Yes, it’s the classic “And they lived happily ever after.”

Teens dream of a “together forever” relationship and promise their friends that they’ll be BFFs.

There is a “foreverness” deeply ingrained in our being. But unfortunately this is not what we experience. Everything comes to an end. Good times pass quicker than bad. Loved ones die. Relationships change. Accomplishments fade. Physical abilities wind down. The fact of the matter is, we are part of a disintegrating universe!

Then what do we make out of this innate desire for happily ever after? Is it an illusion?

Or could it be that an eternal being has created us with eternal longings that only an eternal relationship with Him can satisfy?

I believe so!

But the good news is that this eternity we crave with all our beings is not something that we can anticipate when we die. It is something that begins here. It begins when we give our lives to Christ and are so united with Him that we are in Him! He has set eternity in our hearts (Ecc. 3:11) and has taught us that eternal life is the amazing journey of knowing Him (John 17:3).

So, my friends, instead of waiting for the next occasion or material object or relationship and aimlessly hoping that it would last forever, let us seek after the only true forever being! He was and is and is to come!

Then you will truly live happily ever after. But with a real happiness that Cinderella knows nothing about.

Yes.. you are right.. eternity was put by God in our hearts since Adam, who had it but lost it. Then the ancient Egyptian civilization believed in eternity ,but they didn’t know how to get there. Eternity becomes a reality only when one accepts the Lord Jesus as his savior and Lord. So having a relationship with Him starts eternity on earth that will continue forever..
You put it in a wonderful way.. direct to the point.. Very well said.
